A technical and sustainable down jacket designed to keep you warm in freezing temperatures.
Extra Warm
For extremly cold weather

Overview

Magma Extreme Down Jacket W/Hood is a technical and remarkably warm down jacket, designed to keep those biting cold temperatures away from your body so that you can enjoy the frozen sceneries you are surrounded by. To better cover you up this extreme jacket is given extra body length. All of its materials are chosen for their ability to perform, but also because of their sustainable benefits. The recycled polyamide main fabric is wind resistant and filled with high quality 100 % recycled down (90/10 RE:Down, 700 Cuin, 220 gr m/2) and given a PFAS-free water repellency treatment. To provide extra thermal protection, for example when carrying a backpack, the Magma Warm Down Jacket is equipped ...with an extra layer of synthetic insulation (PrimaLoft® Black insulation Eco) over the shoulders. The shoulders and other exposed area, like the neck and under the arms, is also reinforced with a more protective face fabric. To avoid cold bridging and gain maximum heat retention the entire jacket is designed with box construction. If you are a true winter fan who want to explore nature even in freezing cold weather, it might be a good idea to team up with Magma Extreme Down Jacket W/Hood.

Re:Down

Re:Down has developed a method which enables used down to be collected, cleaned and reused in textile production. Re:Down is 100% recycled down from used clothing and bed linen which is sorted, washed and then sterilized. The collection and production of Re:Down takes place via the use of a carefully controlled system, which utilizes and recycles all parts of the collected goods and is certified in accordance with the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). Re:Down uses a blend of goose and duck down and has the same excellent properties as new down. It helps to reduce waste and improve the utilization of natural resources. Because Re:Down is not sourced from live animals, it also cannot be certified in accordance with the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).

PFAS-free

All our products marked with the PFAS-free logo use a water repellent treatment that is free of PFAS substances.

PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is a group of more than 10.000 substances also known as fluorocarbons. They build up in nature as they do not degrade. In greater concentrations, they are proven to pose a hazard to both human health and the environment.

PFAS has been common to use for the so-called “Durable Water Repellent” finish (DWR): It means that water bounces off the surface rather than being absorbed by the fabric and making it wet. Using PFAS has been an effective treatment to achieve a durable water repellency for waterproof fabrics, but also other applications like ski waxes or food packaging.

Since these chemicals have shown to be harmful for both people and the environment, Bergans is working to phase out all fabrics containing PFAS finish and replace with more environmentally friendly, PFAS-free treatments. All the membranes we use are already free for PFAS. You can read more on PFAS and how we work to eliminate these.

A significant part of the challenge of using alternatives to PFAS lies in the lower durability of these water repellent solutions. That means that using a waterproof garment with a PFAS-free finishing requires you to re-impregnate these more often than before, to achieve a good water-repellent functionality also over time and after many washes. Anyhow, please always consider where and when it’s necessary to reduce environmental impact.
