  5. 5 tips to get the tweens outside

Some vacation days are full of plans – others completely unplanned. That’s when it’s important to get the kids outside. A regular walk in the woods often isn’t enough – here are a few ideas to make a short trip extra special.

5 local trip ideas with tweens:

🌿 Give the kids responsibility
Kids love the feeling of mastery. Give them small roles – map reader, timekeeper, food manager – and watch how they thrive when solving their tasks.

🌿 Go on an expedition
Find a new trail or a lesser-known forest area. Add checkpoints or small challenges along the way. A regular forest can become quite exciting with the right framing.

🌿 Make your own nature documentary
Bring a magnifying glass and study insects and plants. Let the kids film their own nature documentary with a smartphone – they can be both host and director.

🌿 Set up a cozy mini basecamp
Find a nice spot, hang up a hammock, tarp, or a tarp sheet and create a super cozy camp. Bring a deck of cards, drawing materials, a good book, and blankets – and just relax.

🌿 Cook cinnamon rolls on a camping stove
Make cinnamon rolls from ready-made pizza dough. Spread butter, sugar, and cinnamon – roll it up, cut slices, and fry them in a pan with a lid on a camping stove. You’ll have a forest bakery!
