When choosing the right clothing for alpine skiing or snowboarding, it’s about finding products that match your activity level in terms of warmth, weather protection, and breathability.

**In our Oppdal collection, you’ll find ski clothing that covers everything from long days on the slopes to active powder days where lift rides are few and far between. **

If you’re heading on a ski touring trip, we recommend our Y MountainLine collection.

Insulated shell garments: warmth and weather protection in one

Insulated shell garments combine a waterproof and breathable shell fabric with synthetic insulation or down. In other words, you get both weather protection and warmth in one garment, making them perfect for those who want comfort in all conditions.

They are especially suitable for those who:

  • Easily get cold and want steady warmth throughout the day
  • Prefer relaxed skiing and like to take breaks between runs
  • Appreciate simple and comfortable solutions without much adjustment

Even though the garment is insulated, you should still dress according to the conditions. Winter days with -15°C and wind might require an extra layer underneath, while on a mild spring day a thin wool base layer is enough.

Advantages:

  • Provides warmth and protection in one
  • Requires fewer layers, yet can easily be adjusted to the weather
  • A comfortable choice for alpine slopes and cold days

3-layer shell garments: flexibility for the active skier

A 3-layer shell consists of an outer fabric, a membrane, and an inner lining laminated together, without insulation. The result is low weight, high breathability, and durability. This is the choice for those who move a lot, sweat more, and want full control over their layering.

Best suited for those who:

  • Ski actively and want complete layering freedom
  • Freeride and move in off-piste terrain
  • Want one garment that works all season, regardless of weather

Here you build your own layers: wool next to skin, an insulating mid-layer when it’s cold, and a shell outer layer that protects against wind and snow.

Advantages:

  • Maximum breathability and freedom of movement
  • Lightweight and durable
  • Can be used year-round with proper layering
