Chemicals

Our garments are high-tech and subject to strict performance requirements. We must have control over the chemicals used in the production and subsequent treatment of our products. We are actively committed to preventing the use of chemicals hazardous to the environment, employees, suppliers and the safety and health of our customers.

Chemicals are a prerequisite for producing waterproof, windproof, lightweight, and functional garments.Textile manufacturing also involves chemicals in processes such as dyeing, printing, and washing. Chemicals are a complex area, but we are committed to avoiding the use of harmful chemicals by opting for bluesign®-approved materials and suppliers. One of our primary goals is for 75 % of all products containing bluesign®-approved materials by the end of 2020.

Restricted Substances List

We must have control over the chemicals used in the production and subsequent treatment of our products. We maintain a comprehensive checklist of the chemicals our suppliers are banned from using in the production of our products. We follow national and international legislation and the latest research in our commitment to eliminating hazardous chemicals from our products. In addition, we conduct testing so that we can confirm that our chemical requirements have been met.

One of our most important undertakings in reducing our environmental footprint is to maintain constant focus on developing high-quality products with a long useful life. The longer the product life, the shorter its overall environmental impact.

The Chemicals Group

Bergans makes use of the Chemical Group's knowledge and resources for dealing with the complex challenges concerning chemicals.

The Chemicals Group is a Swedish group at Swerea IVF which works to provide information about legislation and other relevant information to its 100 member companies in the textile industry. Bergans makes use of the Chemical Group's knowledge and resources for dealing with the complex challenges concerning chemicals.

Having access to information about problems associated with chemicals and the environment is essential for ensuring that we can in turn make demands on our suppliers and for providing us with the opportunity to be ahead of any legislative requirements.

We also meet other parties there who are involved in the textile industry and who are facing the same challenges as us on a daily basis, and we are able to share our experiences and tools.
